Singapore, You Surprised Us

Singapore wasn’t just our first stop — it was the perfect introduction to a year of exploring the world.
It felt intentional. Gentle. Effortless.
Like the universe placed us there because we needed a soft landing before the adventure really began.
And somehow, Singapore managed to impress not just us…
but my mum, who is famously one of the world’s toughest critics.
If she says something is exceptional, trust me — it was.
🇸🇬✨ The Cleanest, Safest, Most Beautiful Start
The first thing you notice about Singapore is the cleanliness.
Not “normal clean.”
Not “tourist-area clean.”
But every street, every train, every walkway spotless — like the entire city respects its home and takes pride in it.
My mum kept saying,
“I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s immaculate.”
Coming from her?
That’s basically a standing ovation.
And as a solo mother traveling with a toddler, I felt safe everywhere we went.
Morning, night, in crowds, on trains, at the aquarium, walking through the city — there was never a moment that felt uncomfortable or uncertain.
Singapore has a way of wrapping you in order, safety, and calm.
🏨🌴 The Outpost Hotel, Sentosa — A Stay Worth Praising
If I could bottle our stay at The Outpost Hotel and take it with me across the world, I would.
From the moment we walked in, the energy was different — warm, professional, polished, and genuinely caring.
✔ The cleanliness was immaculate.
Every corner of the hotel felt pristine.
The rooms were spotless.
The pool area was perfectly maintained.
Even the hallways felt fresh.
✔ The staff were some of the kindest we’ve ever met.
Hardworking, helpful, smiling, patient —especially with Leo.
They treated guests with a level of respect and attentiveness you rarely see.
You can feel pride in their work.
You can see it in their eyes, their tone, their posture.
They take hospitality seriously — and it shows.
✔ Sentosa was the perfect base.
Close to the aquarium.
Close to attractions.
Easy access to trains.
Calm, green, and family-friendly while still feeling luxurious.
Even Mum said,
“I’d stay here again — without hesitation.”
And if you know her… that means the hotel earned it.
🐠🌊 Days Made of Wonder
Our Singapore days were filled with:
The magical S.E.A. Aquarium
Mornings wandering the waterfront
Vivo City and Orchid Road
Cloud Dome
Gardens by the Bay
Warm air, safe streets, friendly faces
Toddler giggles bouncing through the city
For Leo, Singapore was his first true experience of the world — and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
💛 Why Singapore Felt Like the Right Beginning
There’s something about Singapore that feels intentional.
It’s efficient without being cold.
It’s organised without being rigid.
It’s stunning without being overwhelming.
It’s modern yet gentle.
Safe yet full of life.
Vibrant yet calming.
It set the tone for the entire trip.
It gave us confidence.
It gave us joy.
It gave us memories that already feel golden.
✨ A Soft Goodbye, A Grateful Heart
When we left for our next stop, Mum said something that stayed with me:
“Singapore is a place I’d return to in a heartbeat.”
And she meant it.
For a year-long adventure, you always remember where you begin —
and Singapore, especially The Outpost at Sentosa, will forever be our soft and beautiful first chapter.
Thank you for the kindness.
Thank you for the cleanliness.
Thank you for the warmth.
Thank you for being everything we needed and more.
Singapore… you surprised us.
And we’re so glad you did. 🤎✨
